In 2017 Rigas cirks as a state-owned enterprise  launched new strategy for circus development in the Latvian capital resurrecting the 1888 entertainment venue which occupies a prominent site within the historic city centre. The neo-classicism building was designed by first educated Latvian architect Janis Fridrihs Baumanis, and is one of the oldest standing  circus buildings in Europe.

With the Rigas cirks relaunch, and an ambitious 7 year capital project support the buildings potential practically and architecturally to enable the vision as the National Centre for Circus for circus art and education, circus in the Baltic region is set to spiral and increase in significance in the coming years.

Rigas cirks is the biggest circus institution in the region and also the only one that has a steady state support. The strategic aim of Rigas cirks is to develop professional circus art in Latvia. As a circus centre of regional importance Rigas cirks has 3 main working directions: proposes artistic program, supports artistic creation trough residency programs and co-productions and runs circus leisure education programs for children and adults.
